As Long As It Lasts

Pop-ups are, well, popping up everywhere. Stores like Target and Gap are creating pop-up stores in response to the economic crisis, galleries are popping up for one off events, there are pop-up restaurants and, in this case of As Long As It Lasts, there’s a pop-up tattoo parlor. Designer Tobias Wong along with curator Josee LePage and journalist Aric Chen wanted to see how far people would go to get branded. They selected a group of designers—Vito Acconci/Acconci Studio, Yves Behar, Tord Boontje and Andrew Allenson, Hella Jongerius, KAWS, Juergen Meyer H., Lawrence Weiner, and 5.5 Designers—to design tattoos and invited people to get inked right then and there. It’s one thing to buy a piece of art or design, it’s entirely another to place it onto your body and skin permanently. Part performance, part art, part design, As Long As It Lasts invites you to explore how far you will go to get what you want.
