The Man and His Music
There is no question that Andy Warhol is one of the most seminal artists of our time. A filmmaker, photographer, sculptor, painter, printmaker and quintessential pop artist, Warhol was both a reflection and a creator of the culture that surrounds us. He also was heavily involved with music, having managed the Velvet Underground and designing countless record covers for important bands of the 60s, 70s and 80s including the Rolling Stones. He evn started a magazine that continues to thrive today, Interview, and he opened one of the premiere dance clubs of New York City, Studio 54. He also happened to be a fan of operas and musicals and the entrance to the exhibition, Warhol Live, at the de Young Museum resonates with the crystal clear voice of Judy Garland. Tim Burgard, curator of American Art at the de Young Museum speaks about Warhol Live and the inaccuracies made in the many assumptions about Warhol’s character.
