Joe Frawley’s sound works are abstract phonic narratives. Containing all the elements of a story - atmosphere, momentum, dialogue - they offer up a stratified melange of sonic signifiers for the listener to slide around in, free to shop for, and curate their own meaning from his collection.
Frawley describes his works as “somnambulant improvisations, ” dreamscapes that allow for eruptions of memory, confused and melded with the tides of sleep. In Paradisium builds slowly through original piano compositions, using haunting voice recordings and tactile, hair-raising sound overlay to conjure unsettling memories of the familiar nightmare potential of the unconscious.
