The Conversation

“The Conversation” is a track from Marina Rosenfeld's 2009 album Plastic Materials. Recombining fragments and outtakes and from various live and recorded projects from the last couple of years, the album is named after the popular material for its notion of malleability and ability to respond to either touch or context. Coming from a DJ background, Marina views her musical process as a transformation by superimposition but regards the process to be more akin to alchemy than arithmetic. The album contains multiple ratios and patterns and recurrences and the overall sound of the record suggests a geometrical shape. The piano played in this piece acts as the structure to a song that is a blanket of soft, amorphic sounds that represent her daily life in the studio.
